By accessing or using ProseLint Web, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the service.

ProseLint Web is an independent project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the official Vale project.

ProseLint Web is a browser-based documentation linting tool that allows you to:

  • Lint documents (Markdown, AsciiDoc, MDX, HTML) using Vale
  • Install and manage Vale style packages
  • Store documents and preferences locally in your browser
  • Use the service without installing software

Important: All document processing happens in your browser. Your document content is never sent to our servers.

3. Terms

  • The service is provided free of charge
  • Features may be added, modified, or removed without notice
  • The service may experience unexpected downtime
  • Your feedback is valuable and appreciated
  • We reserve the right to reset or modify the service at any time

5. Acceptable Use

You agree NOT to:

  • Use the service for any illegal purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems
  • Interfere with or disrupt the service
  • Use automated tools to scrape or download content (beyond normal use)
  • Impersonate others or misrepresent your affiliation
  • Upload malicious code or viruses
  • Abuse our API or overwhelm our servers

6. Intellectual Property

Your Content

You retain all rights to the documents and content you process using ProseLint Web. We do not claim ownership of your content.

Our Service

The ProseLint Web interface, design, and functionality are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You may not:

  • Copy, modify, or create derivative works of the service
  • Reverse engineer or decompile the application
  • Remove copyright or proprietary notices

Vale and Third-Party Packages

Vale is an open-source project. Vale style packages are governed by their respective licenses. By using packages, you agree to comply with their license terms.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS-IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.

We do not warrant that:

  • The service will be uninterrupted or error-free
  • Defects will be corrected
  • The service is free of viruses or harmful components
  • The results of using the service will meet your requirements
  • Linting results will be 100% accurate (Vale does its best, but isn't perfect)

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ProseLint Web SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:

  • Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
  • Loss of profits, revenue, data, or use
  • Business interruption
  • Any damages arising from your use or inability to use the service

Some jurisdictions do not allow the limitation of liability, so these limitations may not apply to you.

9. Data Backup

Your documents are stored locally in your browser. You are responsible for:

  • Backing up your documents regularly
  • Maintaining copies of important content
  • Understanding that clearing browser data will delete your stored documents

We are not responsible for any data loss.

10. Third-Party Services

ProseLint Web integrates with third-party services:

  • GitHub: Package downloads
  • Vercel: Hosting and deployment

These services have their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for their actions or policies.

11. Modifications to Service

We reserve the right to:

  • Modify or discontinue the service at any time
  • Change features, functionality, or pricing (when we exit alpha)
  • Impose limits on usage or storage

We will provide reasonable notice of significant changes.

12. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms of Service as the service evolves. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. We will notify users of significant changes via:

  • In-app notification
  • Updated "Last Updated" date at the top of this page

13. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Australia, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

14. Dispute Resolution

If you have a dispute with us, please contact us first to try to resolve it informally. If we cannot resolve the dispute informally, any legal action must be brought in courts located in Australia.

15. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
